This is Shaswat Parajuli, and I’m a writer, editor, and storyteller with a passion for children’s literature and education. Growing up in a family of famous Nepali writer Krishna Prasad Parajuli, writing and storytelling were a part of my upbringing, and I’m proud to have carried on this legacy in my own career.
Over the years, I’ve made a name for myself in the Nepali children’s literature scene. I’ve written several collections of stories, picture books and rhymes books for children that not only entertain but also educate
ork in children’s literature goes beyond just writing. I’m also dedicated to promoting quality literature and shaping the Nepali children’s literature scene. As an editor, I’ve worked with prestigious children’s magazines like ‘Mela’, and Kantipur ‘Kopila’ to ensure that quality literature is being produced for future generations. I’ve had the privilege of helping to establish Mela Books, a publishing house dedicated to children’s books, and I’m committed to promoting quality literature for children.
In addition to my work in writing and editing, I’m also an experienced instructional designer with over 30 years of experience. I specialize in editing and processing Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) and Supplementary Reading Materials (SRMs) for early readers. My work in this area has allowed me to develop over 600 high-quality practice books, storybooks, decodable readers, big books, teacher resource materials, and more.
I’m passionate about early grade education in Nepal and have a strong understanding of the early grade curriculum of Nepal. I’ve spent over a decade coordinating and facilitating various training workshops for teachers, both in-person and virtually. These workshops focused on teaching creative and effective approaches, as well as providing on-site coaching and mentoring.
Currently, I work as a consultant for a few organizations and working as a freelancer. I have worked for USAID-EGRP, Nepal, for about 6 years where I support the implementation of the Early Grade Reading Program. I deliver material-based teacher training, monitor the uses of TLMs along with SRMs in schools, and coach teachers to incorporate research-based best practices in instructional design. I also have worked for Quality Reading Material Program at Room To Read in Nepal for about 4 years. I’ve had the privilege of developing over 78 pictorial books, 20 big books, and 20 decodable books for kids. Apart from my editing and authoring skills, I’m also technically savvy when it is book-design as well as UI/UX design in the techno
